Excelsior Gallia Luxury Hotel

Excelsior Gallia Luxury Hotel

The renovation and the expansion of this historical hotel, located in the hearth of Milan, is part of a redevelopment process of the Duca D’Aosta Square, after the recent end of the works for the actualization of the Central Station.
The project, designed by Marco Piva Studio, propose a complex where beside a new building, characterized by steel and silk-screened glass façades, dialogues with the Pirelli Skyscraper and at the same time it’s in contrast to the historical wing in Belle Epoque style, which has been completely restored.
The original Gallia Hotel, built in 1932, was built using the construction technologies and materials of 30’s (masonry, concrete, reinforced concrete and steel).
After a careful survey of tests on the existing structure, Studio Iorio proposed a structural project that reached a level of seismic safety, equal to that of a new building, respecting the most recent Italian and European seismic codes.
The Excelsior Gallia Hotel won the EIRE 2013 competition: Tourism for Italy – “Design for development”.
