Isozaki Tower

Designed by Arata Isozaki, the tower is the tallest building in Italy, reaching a height of 202 metres in coverage, for a total of 220 metres from the level of the foundations.

As Allianz headquarter, the building can host up to 3,800 people in its 50 floors, 46 of which will be used as business offices.

The structure is organized around two main cores made of reinforced concrete, in which stairs and service elevators are located; two smaller cores built around the elevators for visitors, while the large central open space dedicated to the offices is supported by 14 steel-concrete composite columns. The main cores are made integral by two pairs of belt trusses, in correspondence with the floors in the middle and on the top.

This extremely slender building, is one of the few in the world equipped with hydraulic dampers which function with comfort control in order to mitigate the effects of wind turbulence. The dampers are placed at the base of the four metal struts outside the building itself.

SIO has dealt with the structural optimization of the preliminary project (value engineering) and the final structural design.

Isozaki Tower has achieved LEED GOLD certification.
